Busy bee

August 30, 2010

For the first time in years, life is super busy! I almost forgot that I do my best work when my life is full. When I don’t have time to procrastinate, I become much better at life in general. See, even right now I’m writing a post in the few hours I have between work and class, whereas if I hadn’t had class, i would likely be laying on my bed watching bad tv shows online. Although that does sound nice…..

I have a dear friend from high school visiting for a few days, and I once again get to use my visitors as an excuse to go back into tourist mode. We went to the north shore and saw some awesome seaturtles and a cute couple getting wedding photos taken. I got kinda sentimental with the wedding photos.

Unfortunately, wildlife and I didn’t do so well together that day. While peering over the edge of some slippery wet rocks info the ocean below (trying to see some seaturtles that were already on the beach behind me), I slipped, fell, and narrowly escaped losing my iPhone, my leather rainbows, and my own life, in the depths below. Thankfully my phone and sandals are safe, the skin on my knee being the only victim of my clumsiness.

Later that night, as my friend and I got ready for bed after our day of adventuring, a prehistoric sized cockroach flew into my room, and swarmed around my head (yes, I know that one cockroach can’t be a swarm, but it felt like one). Naturally, I ran from the room screaming, but not without tripping over my own feet and carpet-burning my already injured knee. Eventually I got it together enough to kill it with like half a can of raid.

I swear, I’m normally not a clutz.

MmmmMacrobiotic!

August 8, 2010

A friend of mine works at a macrobiotic restaurant here in Honolulu called Hale, and I finally got a chance to check it out today! It’s hidden downtown next to Walmart, and judging by the area, I was expecting the place to be pretty rustic. I was pleasantly surprised, as the pictures below will show, the place is totally elegant. Not only that, but the food was awesome! I got a Satay curry, and Filippo got an amazing vegan burger…I’m looking forward to the next visit, to say the least!

Transition Time Again

August 7, 2010

We’ve moved again! It’s too bad I didn’t keep up blogging while in the last place, but we had no internet, and my posts would have mostly consisted of complaining about stinky cat litter, chanting neighbors, and a psycho landlord. So I’ll just leave all that complaining behind me as we move on to this new, wonderful place.

The house we’re in now is up on the side of a ridgeline, overlooking Honolulu and Waikiki. It’s super close to work for me, and I get to completely avoid traffic. We have beautiful views, and the house itself is great. There’s a lot of living space, indoor and outdoor, a large kitchen, and some really cool architectural features. Our room is a large master bedroom with a walk-through closet to the bathroom. We have three other house-mates who are very easy to live with and get along with so far. Everybody works full-time and isn’t home much, and even when we’re all home, we’re not stepping on each other’s toes. It’s seeming like a really great living situation, and affordable too!

We’ve been moved in for a week now, and we’re starting to tackle the dilemma of having no furniture. We got a mattress from one of the roommates that got a new one, there was a low bookshelf left here from the previous tenants, and we have a little table that we bought a while ago. But that’s it! I need to start browsing thrift stores for pieces. I really wish I knew someone here who did interior decorating, because my own instincts don’t get me far.

I started my official full-time schedule this week, and it’s been a bit of a struggle maintaining my energy! I work from 6:30-3, and when  get home I’m just pooped. I’ve started a habit of drinking coffee when I get home, but the energy only lasts me a couple of hours. I need to start a good exercise routine, because that’s one thing I know will get me feeling better. It’ just that when you’re always tired, it’s hard to get motivated to exercise!

Anyway, that’s enough for now. Everyone come visit me please. I have one friend coming to visit at the end of August, and I’m so excited! Come visit Erin in paradise!
